Vietnam Coast Bathed in Clams Following North-Central Flood
Residents are eagerly heading to the beach to gather these exquisite sea clams with their unique purplish shells for commercial purposes.
Strong and mighty waves have deposited a variety of clams, both deceased and living, onto the shoreline.
One inhabitant of Cam Nhuong Commune reported that residents frequently discover anadara subcrenata, a species characterized by its thick, oval shell in a white or cream hue, being swept ashore by powerful waves on an annual basis.
This year, the shoreline is adorned by clams featuring beautiful purple shells.

According to Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Cam Nhuong People’s Committee, the beach is yearly inundated with metric tons of anadara subcrenata due to powerful waves.
There was a remarkable occurrence of a vast quantity of purple clams being brought ashore this year,” he stated.
Over the course of the past week, the local community has enthusiastically crowded the beach, engaging in various activities such as clam collection, processing, and ultimately, the lucrative sale of these cherished mollusks.
The individuals gather 20 kilograms of clam flesh per day.
This is the inaugural sighting of purple clams along the shoreline.

Recently, a unique phenomenon occurred at the Thien Cam tourist site in Cam Xuyen District. In early September, an abundance of vibrant purple clams washed ashore, creating a mesmerizing spectacle for visitors. The local community quickly recognized the opportunity and collected tonnes of these exquisite clams for sale.
The clam is a type of bivalve mollusk. It commonly dwells in tidal flats and the sandy seafloor where freshwater is present.
The coastal areas of Loc Ha District and Thach Ha District in Ha Tinh Province are known for clam farming.
During the clam harvest season, the prices of shellfish range from VND20,000 (US$0.82) to VND25,000 ($1.03) per kilogram.
