Vietnam Bans Barbie Movie for Showcasing Chinas Nine-Dash Line Map

Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Department of Cinema, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, on July 3 informed the media of the decision made by the National Council for Film Appraisal and Classification after a review of the movie. The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig and featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was expected to hit the screen from July 21, the same day as in the United States, but cinema chains across Vietnam did not include it in their upcoming list, even as July already started, which sparked concerns over its availability. The nine dash line is an egregious, unilateral map by China that claims much of the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea), including Vietnam’s two island chains of Truong Sa (Spratlys) and Hoang Sa (Paracels). Trinh Thu Vinh and Pham Quang Huy from Vietnam clinched the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team category at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2024 in Indonesia, according to the Vietnamese shooting team’s training board. The event took place from January 5-18 and is considered a qualifying round for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Only individual events are taken into account for the ticket to the Games. Vietnam Connection Music Festival returns to Hanoi in 2023

The Vietnam Connection Music Festival 2023 will take place this weekend and next weekend in Hanoi, with performances from both domestic and foreign artists. The artists from the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM) and the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra will perform two special concerts titled “Music Night at the Theater” and “German Music Night” on April 14 and 22, respectively, at the Grand Concert Hall, VNAM in My Dinh location, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi.
