Lucky money giveaway – an exchange of best New Year wishes

Lucky money giveaway is a long-standing practice that represents “mung tuoi” or “li xi”, literally meaning “congratulation on a new age”.

According to the book “Viet Nam phong tuc” (Vietnamese customs) by scholar Phan Ke Binh (1875 – 1921), after worshipping ancestors, descendants offer lucky money and bow twice to their grandparents and parents. In return, the seniors also give several coins as lucky money to their children.

In the country, lucky money giveaway is a custom at the start of a lunar new year. People often put the money in a red envelope, which is meant to pray for good luck and drive away evil spirits. The practice is also intended to wish small children good growth and learning success and the elderly, longevity and good health.

Given its meaning, lucky money giveaway has long been a cultural identity of Vietnamese people once Tet arrives.

A Melody Celebrating the Strong Bond between Vietnam and Japan Echoed in Tokyo

Hundreds of Japanese students participated in an international exchange day on October 14 at Tomigaya Elementary School in Tokyo, Japan. At the event, five young Vietnamese people won awards in the singing contest for the Vietnam – Japan friendship song “Tomodachi – Tinh ban” (Tomodachi – Friendship) on the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. Japanese students could learn about Vietnam by presenting their understanding of Vietnamese dishes, culture, tourism potential or the differences between Japanese and Vietnamese education. Meanwhile, Vietnamese young people have the opportunity to understand the learning activities of Japanese students better. “Connecting Hanoi’s Art Scene: Bringing Together 80 International Artists from 30 Countries”

The Hanoi Art Connecting is happening at the Hanoi Architectural University from October 18 to 24. Vietnamese artist Vu Tuan Dat will be participating in Hanoi Art Connecting 2023. Tuyen Lam Receives UNESCO Recognition as Outstanding Asia-Pacific Tourism Destination

According to the notification, Tuyen Lam will officially be bestowed with the title during the Vietnam-India cultural and economic exchange, as well as a ceremony to honor intellectuals, managers, scientists, social activists, entrepreneurs, and businesses in Asia-Pacific.
